“Children in early years thrive” (Ofsted, May 2024).
Starting a new school is an exciting time for children, whether they are starting for the first time or moving from another setting, but we also appreciate that it can also be a little daunting for both children and parents! Our main aim at Tibberton CE Primary School is to provide a caring and seamless transition for children and their parents in order for them to feel happy and comfortable.
To help facilitate a smooth start, our team will often visit children in any nursery setting, whether that is on-site at the adjacent Nic & Tim’s Nursery or further afield. That way we have a good understanding of a child’s character and needs before they start in the following September. To aid transition we also invite our young recruits to join us for a number of events in the preceding summer term so they get to know the staff, their new friends and can adjust to a new learning environment. These events may be over lunch, for a story time session or even a half day but the children find them invaluable. Parents and families are often invited to join children in these events.
Adults plan purposeful learning opportunities that link closely to the school’s early years curriculum. “Children are inquisitive and show high levels of perseverance” (Ofsted, May 2024).
As the Reception intake’s confidence grows in the autumn term, they will often join the whole school in worship and make use of a buddy systems with peers higher up the school.
