Year 1 Maths for Friday

As you are probably aware, the BBC launched its Bitesize home learning platform this week, with daily lessons for Year Ones.  We are aware that some of you have been taking part in these lessons.

The focus of the Year One maths lessons for Mon to Wednesday was counting forwards and backwards in ones, twos and fives.  Each lesson is accompanied by worksheets that your child may want to complete or just talk about.  (The Pearson Power Maths resources are in line with the Maths Mastery approach we use within school).

Today we are sending some activities that your child may choose to do over the next few days to practise counting forwards (and backwards) in two, fives and tens.

Next week we will continue to send activities that are in line with the Bitesize lessons, but we will be a day or two behind as we have to watch them when you do!

Plants

As part of our work on ‘How does your garden grow?’ we will be looking at a variety of plants. We would like you to use the powerpoint attached to find out how to label the parts of a plant and what job each part does to keep a plant healthy. There are other plant activities loaded onto Seesaw for you to choose from and the letter below outlines some activities you might like to do whilst at home.

Jack and the Beanstalk for Year 1

We would like you to read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk which we have attached to this message. There are some questions to answer after you have read the story. There are also two activities to choose from to be able to retell the story and then share with a partner.

Class 1 and 2 Easter activities

As we are approaching the Easter break, we would like you to look at the Easter story. Most of you will have had chance to complete the story with us in school before we closed, but you can find a copy of the story in the free Twinkl resources.

See if you can retell the story verbally or tell the story through your own pictures. We have sent a drawing board with sentences but if you can’t use this then draw the pictures in your yellow book.

Draw the Easter story

On Twinkl you can also access a really lovely story called The Easter Journal, which includes information about Easter and a range of different Easter activities which you might like to try at home, for example, painting eggs or decorating a cross. If you click on the link below, you will find the story and lots of resources linked to it which you could choose from.

Year 1 and 2 SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar)

This week’s SPAG focus is conjunctions or joining words as we also call them in school.

We have attached a very simple powerpoint just to get the children thinking about these words again and a task which they can complete either in their yellow book or on Seesaw.

Please note that Year 1 pupils only need to concentrate on these simpler conjunctions, and, but, so, because.

Year 2 pupils will already know a wider range. Year 2 pupils will also know that some conjunctions can be used to start a sentence too.
