Sustainability and Climate Action

At Tibberton, we are proud of our rural setting and links to agriculture, transport and sustainable living. We know that schools can be the trailblazers for their community, responding to young people’s calls for action. In fact, they can inspire whole communities to tackle the climate crisis. In this pivotal ‘climate decade,’ we will be part of Let’s Go Zero’s national network of schools and sustainability, sharing information about how to reach zero carbon, and working with local councils and government to make it happen.

We’re committing to cut carbon in a number of key areas and, working together with the our Let’s Go Zero Climate Action Advisor, have calculated our baseline carbon footprint. We have an ambitious but achievable Climate Action Plan so that we can start to reduce our carbon footprint and work towards becoming a zero carbon school.

We are planning for impact in the following areas:

· Culture: establishing pupil leadership

· Curriculum: weaving our action into the learning environment

· Energy: supporting pupil leadership in monitoring and Switch off campaigns

· Uniform: celebrating our pre-existing Wear and Share scheme as our flagship sustainability action

· Food: continuing our work with the Shropshire Good Food partnership

· Transport: promoting walking and cycling to school

· Waste: composting our food waste as part of the Shropshire Good Food Partnership

· Garden: Increasing the space dedicated to growing food on school grounds. Using this as a practical tool for teaching students about botany, ecology, and nutrition, carbon etc.

By joining the Let’s Go Zero campaign we’re taking a positive step on a local level to help combat the climate issues we all face globally. It sends a strong message to our whole school and community that together we can safeguard our planet for future generations. Doughnut Day

On Monday 16th December the whole school held ‘Doughnut Day’. We used the idea of a ring doughnut 🍩 and in Reception we described it as being all the things we love, such as our family and friends, the things we like to do and the places we like to go. The middle of the doughnut is the space that God fills. God can fill the hole for people in many different ways. Some people like to meditate to feel connected to God. Some people are connected most to God when they read or when they create something. Some people feel most connected to God when they are surrounded by nature. We created our own heart frames to frame what we loved about being surrounded by nature. And of course we had to eat a doughnut too!

Chinese New Year

Vanessa came to school to talk to us about Chinese New Year.
This year is the year of the dragon.
We did our own dragon parade!
Everybody clapped and cheered as we went by.
It was so much fun!
Then we painted our own dragon plate.
We chose our own colours and carefully painted our plates.
