Re-designing the Ironbridge

This week Class 3 have been looking at bridges. In 1773, architect Thomas Farnolls Pritchard commissioned Abraham Darby III, an ironmaster working at Coalbrookdale in the gorge, to cast and build the bridge over the River Severn, which had until then had been crossed by ferry. From learning about this in History, we then made our very own bridges in Design & Technology, first creating a design like Thomas Pritchard did, and then constructing our own. We then tested them to see how strong they were. Some even held 80+ marbles in a cup! It was great fun!
